Why #TeamOsaic walks
As we gear up for the #TeamOsaic campaign to support the American Cancer Society in October, affiliated Osaic Financial Professionals and home office employees have started sharing why they are participating in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk. Take a moment to read their inspirational submissions—and check back soon, as additional testimonials will be added over time.
Please share your “why” with us! Email a few sentences about what’s motivating you to walk with #TeamOsaic, along with a photo, to OsaicFoundation@Osaic.com.
Why #TeamOsaic walks
I remember living in Chile in 2001 when I got the call notifying me that my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was serving a two-year mission for my church and my parents sacrificed much to help me get there. The news was distressing, and I was thousands of miles away and unable to do anything to help. That night, I fell on my knees and prayed desperately to God to sustain her and my family during that difficult time. I returned to the States in 2003, and standing there waiting for me was my mother and others in my family to welcome me home. Soon after my marriage in 2006, she passed away. I loved her so much. I miss her. When the time comes when God calls me home, I know she will be there to welcome me home again.
I am excited and eager to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I walk this October in honor of Tonya Borla and all who have been impacted by this disease.
I am participating in the walk in honor of my amazing grandma who always encouraged my creativity and my appetite for both books and dessert. We lost her a few weeks ago in July to breast cancer.
I am a breast cancer survivor. I walk to spread awareness and hopefulness.
I am participating in support of my sister, who went through breast cancer treatment a couple of years ago and has come through it clearly. It would be a scary thought that all the research and treatments weren't here now, and I could have lost my sister. So glad they are and still have her around to grow old with.

This year, I am walking in celebration of my friend Melissa, who is a breast cancer survivor. Melissa is a radiant young mom and wealth management industry professional who navigated her diagnosis and treatment with vulnerability and grace. It is a blessing that she can enjoy having this nasty disease in her rearview. I wish for the same outcome for everyone, and I am proud to support this important cause in her honor.
I just want to people to know they are supported. If you have shared your story, if you haven't shared your story. There is strength in numbers, and I am walking to show my support.
I am walking to honor those who are angels who fought hard and those in the fight. Unfortunately, this is a long list, but I am going to mention a few. This walk is in memory of my mother-in-law, my BFF’s dad, and my grandfather. I am also walking for those who need strength and prayers for continued healing:my sister, who was newly diagnosed with MDS, and a cousin and an aunt have fought breast cancer. Thinking of you and love you all.
